Service: Fan Assisted Smoke Venting System

The town centre development at Becket House, Brentwood consists of the refurbishment of the existing 1960's office block for residential use and will provide contemporary one and two bedroom apartments.

The L-shaped building comprises two wings. To improve the viability of the scheme, two new floors are to be added to both wings taking the east wing to seven floors and the south wing to nine floors.

The building created a major challenge due to limited space and the structure allowed little modification. To satisfy building regulation requirements, two 0.5m2 smoke ventilation shafts were provided at the end of the corridor with fire service access provided from the centre of the building. Fire Design Solutions designed, supplied, installed and commissioned the fan assisted smoke extraction system including the automatic smoke detection system.
